Mirror Maze

The Mirror Maze – A honestly frightening encounter for me

When we entered the mirror maze, it felt like a psychedelic drug-fuelled acid trip, which wasn’t a good thing, in my mind. We had to use our pool noodles to help us feel our way through the mirror maze, as we might knock into the mirrors accidentally. There were many dead-ends and your own reflection would stare back at you from multiple mirrors.

Psychosis, hallucinations, delusions, mirrors

I went to the mirror maze in Singapore, with my friend recently. It might be a fun and enriching experience for people without mental health issues, but it was a harrowing experience for me. We queued up to enter the mirror maze, and my friend stuck her hand in one of the exhibits, and it seemed like a hand was appearing from the box itself. I freaked out momentarily until she said that it was her own reflection. I screamed for dear life. Seriously, it was so freaky. The ushers handed us some pool noodles, and we were left to our own devices, free to explore the rest of the exhibits. The whole place was draped with black curtains, which made it very scary, and we had to enter a pitch dark tunnel and we had to grope around in the dark before entering the mirror maze. We had to use our pool noodles to help us feel our way through the mirror maze, as we might knock into the mirrors accidentally. There were many dead-ends and your own reflection would stare back at you from multiple mirrors. I even thought that something might jump out from the mirrors and scare me, or I would end up in the realm of psychosis. It left me feeling disorientated and petrified. My friend even stated that it was like one of those horror movies where you were trapped in a maze or you had to open many never-ending doors. We were startled by some random voiceovers when were navigating the maze, and at one point, I even screamed that I wanted to get out. I was so desperate to find the emergency exit and I was very relieved that I got out. After I got out, I was greeted by the sight of hanging labcoats moving on a conveyer belt and I decided to take a massage by using the massage chairs. It felt like I was in a nightmare, as the massage felt like hands were grabbing me from the back. Not a good experience, seriously.

Warning: This maze may cause hallucinations or delusions if you are prone to those. They even stated that they are not responsible for any psychological damage or issues arising from the usage of the maze.

Edit: The staff were quite kind, as they helped me find my lost phone. Also, thank you, kind stranger.
