I didn’t want to wake up. I was having a much better time asleep. And that’s really sad. It was almost like a reverse nightmare, like when you wake up from a nightmare you’re so relieved. I woke up into a nightmare. ― Ned Vizzini,
I just found out that Chester Bennington had taken his own life, today, on 21/7/2017. He was only 41 years old. He was the lead singer of Linkin Park, which produced hit songs such as “In the end”, “Numb”, and “New Divide”. He also collaborated with Kiiara on the hit song “Heavy”. I received a barrage of posts about Chester Bennington, but I thought it was a hoax until I saw many newspaper articles covering it. It came as a shock to me. He was so young and gone too soon. I used to think that one day I would become a famous singer, and collaborate with him. But looks like that is not going to happen. He was a victim of sexual abuse, and he had been bullied in school as well. He also started taking drugs at a young age and became addicted to alcohol. He had been dealing with mental health problems for a very long time. One quote from Ned Vizzini comes to mind:
I didn’t want to wake up. I was having a much better time asleep. And that’s really sad. It was almost like a reverse nightmare, like when you wake up from a nightmare you’re so relieved. I woke up into a nightmare.
― Ned Vizzini,
I think he must have felt this way, when he wanted to commit suicide, probably the desperation and loneliness was so overwhelming, the flames were raging and he felt that letting go was the better of the two, rather than continuing to fight the flames.
RIP Chester Bennington, you fought the good fight, and we will all miss you.
PS. If you don’t know who Linkin Park is, they are a nu-metal/alternative rock band, nowadays, their music is more mainstream and catered to mainstream tastes.
Editor’s Note: Chester’s cause of death has been, as of 24th July, been confirmed to be hanging.
“Chester Bennington’s cause of death has been confirmed by The Los Angeles County coroner. Spokesperson Ed Winter confirmed to the Associated Press that the 41-year-old hanged himself in his home near Los Angeles. A half empty bottle of alcohol was found in the room, but no drugs were evident. No suicide note was found either. An autopsy has yet to be scheduled.” (The Independent)
